Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Joint Entrance Examination 2012 (IIT JEE 2012)

Admissions to Undergraduate Courses in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs located at Bhubaneswar, Bombay, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Mandi, Patna, Rajasthan, Roorkee, Ropar), IT – BHU (Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University) and ISM (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad in 2012 will be done through a Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE 2012).    

IIT JEE 2012 Schedule

Date of examination: 8th April, 2012

Paper 1: 09.00 to 12.00 hrs and

Paper 2: 14.00 to 17.00 hrs.

Examination Pattern

There will be two question papers, each of three hours duration in IIT JEE 2012. Both the question papers will consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Questions will be of objective type designed to test comprehension, reasoning and analytical abilities of candidates. The answers are to be marked on a separate, specially designed ORS (Optical Response Sheet, machine-gradable sheet of paper) by darkening the bubble(s) against correct answer(s) using black ball point pen only. Some questions may carry negative marking (it will be mentioned against such questions). The detailed syllabus is available on the websites of IITs.

Eligibility

The applicant should ensure that they satisfy all the eligibility conditions given hereunder for appearing in IIT JEE 2012:

  • Date of Birth : Candidates of GE (General) and OBC (Other Backward Castes) must have been born on or after 1st October 1987 and those belonging to SC, ST and PD (Physically Disabled) categories must have been born on or after 1st October 1982.
  • Year of Passing of Qualifying Examination (QE) : A candidate must have passed the QE namely, Class XII standard or equivalent for the first time on or after 1st Oct, 2010 or should be appearing in 2012.
  • Minimum Percentage of Marks in QE : Candidates of GE and OBC categories must secure at least 60% marks, and those of SC, ST and PD categories must secure at least 55% marks in aggregate in the QE.
  • Attempts in IIT JEE Permitted : Those who appeared in IIT JEE in 2010 or earlier are not eligible to appear in IIT JEE 2012. A candidate can attempt JEE maximum two times in consecutive years irrespective of Caste and Categories and also whether or not he/she passed QE.
  • Admission taken through JEE earlier : A candidate who has accepted admission, by paying registration fee, to any of the programmes at IITs, IT BHU Varanasi and ISM Dhanbad based on performance in IIT JEE 2011 will not be eligible to write IIT JEE 2012, irrespective of whether or not he/she joined.

Reservation of Seats

  1. For OBC, SC and ST candidates who qualify under relaxed norms, respectively 27%, 15% and 7.5% seats are reserved in each programme. 
  2. For PD candidates, otherwise fit to pursue the course, who qualify under relaxed norms, 3% seats are reserved in each of the categories (GE, OBC, SC and ST).
  3. Two seats in each IIT are preferentially allotted to children of defence / paramilitary personnel killed or permanently disabled in action during war or peacetime operations provided the candidate qualifies without any relaxed criterion.

Application Procedure

A candidate can submit application either Online through internet, or Offline, on a prescribed OMR (Optically Machine Readable) application form. OMR Application form cost including processing charges of 200/-

Candidates who wish to appear for IIT JEE 2012 in Dubai city need to apply online with a fee of US$200.

Payment Mode : Through challan of selected banks.
